From United Kingdom to Australia: a career that keeps moving
For Seth Trueman, one of the biggest attractions of working as a Service Technician is the variety. "My role as a service technician at Konecranes is incredibly dynamic and diverse," he says. "Every day brings something new, whether it's servicing, repairs, installations, or handling breakdowns."
But the role extends beyond day-to-day maintenance work."What really sets the role apart is the opportunity to travel interstate and support other branches on projects, including modernisation work."
That variety has allowed Seth to work across different industries, technologies, and customer sites throughout Australia."It lets me explore more of Australia and gives me exposure to different industries and technologies. The variety of work and the chance to see how equipment evolves across sites make every day a rewarding experience."
Working at the forefront of change
A key part of Seth's role involves helping customers keep equipment operating safely and efficiently while adapting to changing technology."One day I might be doing routine servicing, and the next I could be working through a complex breakdown or a modernisation project where older systems need to be upgraded to current standards while improving efficiency and safety."
For Seth, the pace of change within automation is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job."The diversity of challenges and the constant evolution of the automation industry keep me motivated."
Konecranes' focus on innovation also plays a major role. "As a global leader in material handling systems, the company is at the forefront of research and development. I get to work on advanced equipment and digital systems that other manufacturers simply don't offer, which keeps the job exciting and pushes me to keep learning."
A career built across several countries
Seth's career has taken him across multiple continents. "My journey from South Africa to the UK and now Australia has been incredibly rewarding."
Along the way, one thing has remained consistent. "Having worked for the company in both the UK and Australia, I've seen firsthand how seriously health and safety is taken."
After spending a short period with other employers, he made the decision to return to Konecranes. "I chose to return to Konecranes because of that strong safety culture and the stability that comes with being part of a global leader in manufacturing automation."
For Seth, safety is more than a policy. "It's reassuring to work for an organisation that genuinely prioritises sending people home safe every day."
Keep learning and trust your team
More than a decade into his career, Seth still approaches every day as an opportunity to learn."My advice to aspiring technicians is to be patient and open to learning. No one knows everything, and even after 13 years in the industry, every day is still a school day."
He also believes teamwork is essential to success. "You'll be working with a great group of people you can rely on, especially when tackling challenging projects."
Outside work, Seth enjoys spending time surfing and working on his project car. "Being in the ocean, rain or shine, really clears my head and helps me recharge." It's a balance that helps him stay focused and ready for whatever challenge comes next.
