Life at Konecranes A journey of growth and leadership at Konecranes

CAREER STORY

Meet Marcia White

A journey of growth and leadership at Konecranes

After relocating to Perth in 2006, Marcia White took a career pause to help her two children settle into a new school.

Soon after, she joined Konecranes as a part-time Accounts Payable Officer. What began as a flexible role quickly evolved into a career-defining journey. Today, she serves as the Branch Manager for Konecranes’ West Branch.

Embracing change

Over the years, Marcia has witnessed Konecranes transform significantly. “The organisational structure, business systems, and processes have evolved, driven by globalisation and the adoption of cutting-edge technology,” she shares.

Despite these advancements, the company’s core values have remained steadfast, providing a strong foundation for growth. After an initial eight-year tenure that saw her rise to Project Manager in the New Equipment Department, she left to broaden her skill set. In 2020, she returned as a Service Planner, a role that paved the way for her current leadership position.

Celebrating milestones

Reflecting on her time at Konecranes, Marcia highlights two standout achievements.

The first was delivering 76 Wire Rope Hoists to a mine site near Karratha. “Each hoist required specific local modifications, and the level of document control was immense,” she recalls. Despite the challenges, the project was delivered on time and on budget, earning her the Best Project Delivery award in 2012.

More recently, she led the West Branch to win the Business Unit of the Year award twice in a row, in 2024 and 2025.

The role of training and development

Konecranes’ commitment to employee development has been instrumental in Marcia’s career. As a participant in the High Potential Individuals (HPI) Program, she gained exposure to various business functions, from Finance and Reporting to hands-on crane servicing. The program culminated in a visit to a manufacturing facility in China, where she completed additional product training. “Having exposure to these different areas within the business really motivated me to continue growing in my career,” she says.

A culture of collaboration and respect

When asked about Konecranes’ culture, Marcia describes it as diverse, respectful, and supportive. “Employees are encouraged to take initiative and work collaboratively as a team. Knowledge sharing is embedded in the culture, and colleagues are always willing to help each other succeed,” she explains. This environment has not only fostered her growth but also inspired her to mentor others.

Advice for newcomers: Step outside your comfort zone

For those starting their journey at Konecranes, Marcia offers this advice: “Opportunities for career progression are exceptional here, but they’re not handed to you. If you’re motivated, committed, and willing to put in the effort, growth will follow. Have the courage to step outside your comfort zone and trust in your abilities.”

Balancing work with purpose

Outside of work, Marcia finds balance and purpose through her involvement in the ‘Ride for Youth,’ a 700km bike ride from Albany to Perth that raises funds for youth mental health. For the past nine years, she has trained year-round, dedicating a minimum of three days per week to prepare for the event. Each participant raises at least $5,000 annually to support free counselling services for young people aged 12 to 25.

“This commitment not only supports my own mental health but also helps create a future where mental health doesn’t hold young people back,” she shares.

Marcia's story reminds us that career paths are rarely linear. They often involve twists, turns, and moments of reinvention. But with the right mindset and a commitment to moving what matters, both professionally and personally, the possibilities are limitless.
