Job Description

Job Position: HSE Coordinator


HSE Coordinator ensures safe working conditions and practices that meet all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies are being followed at the site location. The HSE Coordinator also coaches the site managers and personnel on the recognition, elimination and control of occupational hazards and environmental risks. This position is responsible for the development of HSE improvement plans, metrics, and strategies as it applies to the site location.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide safety leadership in area of responsibility that includes the site location in Middletown as well as the West Chester Branch when called upon.
• Analyse and evaluate the site’s current health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and practices to ensure they meet Konecranes and the customers’ requirements.
• Follow safety monitoring and occupational health monitoring programs to ensure all activities meet established requirements.
• Establish methods for maintaining site records for occupational and environmental health and safety, including documentation on training and certifications.
• Perform safety inspections and compliance audits regularly.
• Monitor daily field operative activities to ensure compliance with Konecranes and site policies.
• Conduct periodic safety meetings, safety training, safety audits, risk assessments and other safety related assistance at the site location.
• Prepare reports, including observations and recommendations for correction.
• Establish and maintain an effective accident and incident reporting process for all site employees.
• Create effective safety partnerships with all employees and client safety departments.
• Conduct evaluations of exposure to noise, particles, gases, fumes, etc., and recommend measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
• Lead or take part in investigations and conduct Root Cause Analysis on all injury/illness and/or near hit incidents, to include corrective action plans.
• Assist, advise, follow-up, and/or lead implementation with local management on corrective actions with all incidents and near hits.
• Review site specific work instructions to ensure all safety requirements are being met and update yearly with site management input.
• Prepare safety and compliance reports as required by management and outside organizations.
• Provide input on and participates in HSE strategic planning for the Branch

• Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:


• Requires knowledge of regulations affecting environmental, health, and safety.
• Well-developed writing and verbal skills sufficient to design, deliver, and communicate training, rules, and procedures; to solve problems and resolve conflict; to investigate incidents; and prepare compliance reports.
• Requires skill in identifying training needs.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal with attention to detail and diplomacy.
• Strong presentation and training skills.
• Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite products.
• Requires the technical skills to perform the responsibilities of the position.
• Requires the ability to convert environmental, health and safety program goals into site-specific action plans.
• Requires the ability to conduct audits and training.
• Requires the ability to respond quickly to incidents and take appropriate action to assure team members of their safety.
• Must be able to analyse data and incidents, perform gap analysis, prioritize, and develop implementation plans.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:


• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an Environmental, Health, Safety, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent discipline and professional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CHSP). Equivalent experience in plant safety or safety management will also be considered.
• Experience or education in heavy manufacturing (steel processing), ergonomics and environmental compliance is highly desirable.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:


• Must be able to lift 40 pounds occasionally, frequent lifting of 1-5 pounds.
• Able to function at heights to assess work being completed in those locations.
• Must be able to travel on an occasional basis.
