Job Description

Business Unit Quay and Horizontal is searching for a Project Chief Mechanical Engineer, to join Business Line Shipyard Cranes and take responsibility for mechanical engineering in Shipyard Cranes projects. The Business Line is responsible for goliath cranes and level luffing shipyard cranes business globally delivering some of the biggest cranes in the world to leading shipyards around the globe.

As Project Chief Mechanical Engineer, you are in a key role in delivering some of these large multi-year cranes projects, leading the engineering of the crane(s) themselves, shipping and erection of them and engineering support for the supply chain. You are in direct communication with the customer concerning project technical matters and are responsible for the whole project mechanical engineering, including operational engineering and for ensuring the outcome will meet specifications, regulations and performance requirements.

You define required resources, schedule and budget for project engineering and ensure fluent coordination and steering between the engineering sub-teams. You work in close cooperation with project stakeholders (suppliers, project management, supervisors), Technology core teams and engineering offices (internal and external).

This role is based in our headquarters in Hyvinkää, Finland, or in other key Konecranes locations in Europe.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Verifying the feasibility of customers' technical specification and proposing necessary deviations at sales phase
  • Being in charge of project mechanical engineering from kick-off until end of the warranty time
  • Being the customer contact point concerning mechanical matters and ensuring requirements are communicated throughout the engineering team
  • Securing that project engineering will be executed according to specification, defined standards, Konecranes engineering principles and JUNA process
  • Ensuring keeping to the project’s engineering schedule and budget
  • Defining and allocating engineering resources for project and coordinating resource allocation with Technology teams
  • Working in close cooperation with Project Chief Electrical Engineer and Project Manager to secure smooth progress of the project
  • Leading the whole project engineering by guiding the work of defined resources (Konecranes engineering centres and/or external engineering suppliers), ensuring all engineering works are performed and verifying final approval of drawings and technical solutions
  • Managing project special engineering such as transportation and erection engineering and supporting manufacturing and erection suppliers/sites in technical questions

Qualifications

What you should bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in engineering management or comparable engineering work. Structural or machinery calculation experience is required.
  • Will and skill to successfully lead complex project engineering under time pressure
  • Experience with TeamCenter and SAP (or equal engineering tools) as well as ERM (engineering resources management) systems is an advantage.
  • Experience in international delivery and engineering projects
  • Fluency in English, other language skills are considered as a plus.
  • Readiness for international business travel for around 20-30 days/year, due to the global scope of the position
  • Readiness to work from our office in Hyvinkää, Finland 1-2 days a week is an advantage
