Life at Konecranes Safety that goes beyond the workplace

Meet Kaivalya Mahalle
Safety that goes beyond the workplace
Building a safety mindset that lasts a lifetime
When Kaivalya Mahalle joined Konecranes in September 2024 as a Health, Safety and Environment Specialist he stepped into a role where every day is an opportunity to make a difference. From conducting safety audits and delivering training programmes and supporting across different office locations, his focus is on helping people build safe habits that last far beyond the workplace.
"My role is to ensure that safety is not just a process but a mindset across our operations," he says. "Every day, I work closely with employees to build awareness, strengthen safe work practices and create an environment where everyone returns home safely."
His work also includes leading initiatives such as Safety Month and World Environment Day, creating opportunities for employees to engage with Konecranes' Life Saving Behaviours and Planet Saving Behaviours through practical learning and everyday conversations.
Learning through every interaction
For Kaivalya, learning is continuous. Every audit, site visit and training session brings an opportunity to exchange ideas, understand different working environments and strengthen the safety culture across teams.
"No two sites are the same. Every location teaches you something new, and every interaction helps us improve. Safety is strongest when everyone contributes, regardless of their role or experience."
He particularly enjoys working with employees from different functions, encouraging open conversations about workplace risks and practical improvements.
"People should feel comfortable speaking up if they notice something unsafe. Building that trust and encouraging everyone to participate is an important part of creating a strong safety culture."
When Training made a difference
At Konecranes, practical learning is a key part of building a strong safety culture. Through first aid certification, emergency preparedness programmes and regular safety training, employees are equipped with skills that can make a difference both at work and beyond.
One Sunday evening, those learnings were put to the test. While playing cricket with friends, one of his teammates suddenly collapsed on the field. As others tried to understand what had happened, Kaivalya recognised the signs of a medical emergency.
Without hesitation, he began CPR using the techniques he had learned through Konecranes' first aid training, while his friends called for medical assistance.
"Even after several minutes without a response, I continued performing CPR because I knew every second mattered."
A few moments later, his friend's pulse returned. He was taken to hospital and later made a full recovery.
"It was one of the most emotional moments of my life. It reinforced the importance of being prepared because you never know when your knowledge could save someone's life."
Growing together
Kaivalya says the experience strengthened his appreciation for Konecranes' approach to learning and collaboration.
"The first aid certification and practical training I received at Konecranes gave me the confidence to stay calm and act without hesitation."
He also believes the experience demonstrated the importance of working together.
"While I performed CPR, my friends coordinated medical support and arranged transportation to the hospital. It reminded me that the best outcomes come when people work together and support one another."
Today, whether he is delivering training, conducting audits or leading employee engagement initiatives, Kaivalya continues to encourage colleagues to view safety as a shared responsibility.
Safety that goes beyond the workplace
Looking back, Kaivalya believes the experience changed the way he thinks about his own work.
"The training I received at Konecranes gave me the confidence to act without hesitation. It reminded me that safety doesn't end when we leave the workplace."
Kaivalya continues working towards the same goal—helping build a culture where people are prepared to protect themselves, each other and the world around them.
"You never know when the knowledge you gain today could help someone tomorrow. That's why every training session matters."
