Mechanical Assembly Foreman

Position Summary

Konecranes is seeking a results-oriented Mechanical Assembly Foreman to lead the mechanical assembly activities associated with custom Engineered-to-Order overhead cranes.

This position is responsible for ensuring crane components are assembled safely, correctly, and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality and workmanship. The Mechanical Assembly Foreman provides direct leadership to assembly personnel, coordinates production priorities, and drives accountability for safety, quality, productivity, and schedule adherence.

This role requires a strong understanding of industrial machinery installation and precision alignment techniques to ensure hoists, gearboxes, motors, drive systems, and other critical crane components are assembled and perform in accordance with engineering and quality standards.

This role is critical in delivering mechanically complete cranes that are ready for electrical installation, testing, shipment, and field installation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and direct mechanical assembly technicians.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and execution.
  • Coach employees to achieve performance and quality expectations.
  • Address performance issues promptly and constructively.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration across fabrication, assembly, electrical, planning, and quality functions.

Production Management

  • Oversee the installation, fit-up, and precision alignment of mechanical power transmission equipment including hoists, gearboxes, motors, couplings, brake assemblies, shafts, bearings, and trolley drive components.
  • Ensure critical machinery alignment, tolerances, and clearances meet engineering specifications and manufacturer requirements to achieve optimal equipment performance, reliability, and service life.
  • Oversee all mechanical assembly activities.
  • Coordinate manpower and workflow to support production schedules.
  • Monitor productivity and remove obstacles impacting performance.
  • Ensure assembly activities are completed according to engineering requirements.
  • Communicate status, risks, and resource needs to management.

Quality & Technical Standards

  • Verify proper alignment of hoists, gearboxes, motors, wheel assemblies, drive systems, and other rotating equipment utilizing precision measurement tools and alignment techniques.
  • Ensure mechanical assemblies meet specified tolerances for shaft alignment, gear engagement, bearing installation, rail tracking, and machinery mounting surfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical fit-up, alignment, vibration, and performance issues identified during assembly and testing.
  • Ensure assemblies meet engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain compliance with Konecranes workmanship standards.
  • Verify completion of inspection checkpoints and quality documentation.
  • Drive first-pass quality and reduce rework.
  • Ensure completed assemblies are prepared for electrical installation and testing.

Safety Leadership

  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety observations and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience installing and precision aligning industrial machinery, including motors, gearboxes, hoists, couplings, bearings, and related power transmission equipment.
  • Knowledge of machinery alignment principles, mechanical tolerances, precision measurement tools, and industrial assembly best practices.
  • Experience leading mechanical assembly operations in manufacturing, industrial equipment, heavy machinery, or construction-related industries.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and assembly documentation.
  • Experience managing production schedules and workforce performance.
  • Knowledge of overhead cranes, material handling equipment, or heavy industrial equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.
