Job Purpose
This job is responsible for steering the management of health, safety, environmental and quality to ensure regulatory compliance, and industry best practices to support the business, to include implementing company HSEQ standards and core processes.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate and maintain a HSEQ management system and programs aligned to legislations, corporate and client requirements.
- Carry out the company safety statutory/legal responsibilities and compliance and advising the board of directors on information pertinent to HSEQ.
- Ensure legal compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, including environmental requirements.
- Ensure all internal policies are aligned with legislative requirements and best practice
- Ensure that the Quality Management System is maintained and controlled in accordance with ISO standards
- Conformance to environmental standards is maintained
- Coordinate process and system audits at stipulated intervals to ensure quality, good manufacturing, engineering and overall practice standards are adhered to.
- Manage the subcontractor management processes
- Supporting incident investigations, recording and analysis of OHS and Environmental corrective actions, non- conformances, near misses and customer complaints, and develop preventive action plans.
- Coordinate and facilitate statutory compliance requirements are being met e.g. HSEQ Committee; Health Safety.
- Representative inspections; HSEQ induction; training and medicals, periodic emergency response exercise and drills, accurately maintain records, lessons learned and ensure improvement recommendations are implemented.
- Provide support and guidance with the rehabilitation and return to work of employees after accidents or injuries HSEQ reports, statistics and analysis is provided to line managers and business leaders.
- All HSEQ documentation and records are maintained accurately and in compliance with requisite OHSAS and ISO standards.
- Conduct internal SHE audits, participate in external audits, government department’s inspections and make recommendation to management in terms of HSEQ legal and other requirements.
- Guide, coach team members on operational tasks to appropriately allocate tasks and targets accordingly to the specified priorities.
- Execute all functions in line with the applicable delegation of authority.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Job Requirements:
Qualification/Education:
- B-Degree in Safety management, Environmental Health or equivalent.
- Must have SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification.
Skills & Knowledge:
- 3 - 5 years of progressive experience, preferably in the manufacturing environment
- Able to gather and analyse relevant information and coordinate work with other team members.
- Contributes information and ideas to development of project plans.
- Identifies complex problems and recommends solutions.
- Makes sound decisions on routine matters in support of immediate work group’s goals.
- Functions independently within context of day-to-day activities.
- Influences how own work assignments are completed. Some creativity in accomplishing assignments and use of discretion and independent judgment required.
- Work requires analysis using established procedures to solve routine problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal with attention to detail and diplomacy.
- Strong presentation and training skills.
- Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite products.
- Working knowledge of ISO standards.
- Strong understanding of HSEQ related standards.
