Business Unit Port Cranes is searching for a Chief Mechanical Engineer to take responsibility for mechanical engineering BL SHIP projects and products. Responsibilities include technical sales support, delivery project engineering management and product management support.
As Chief Mechanical Engineer, you are in a key role to support our sales team by verifying mechanical feasibility of technical specification and proposing technical solutions during the sales phase. In delivery projects you are in direct communication with the customer concerning project technical matters, and leading the whole project engineering, including operational engineering.
You define required resources and budget for project engineering and verify that engineering will be executed on time and within budget, according to specification and standards. You will work in close cooperation with project stakeholders (suppliers, project management, supervisors), Technology core teams and engineering offices (internal and external). Furthermore, the Chief Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical product management/development tasks of Shipyard Cranes and defines required resources to implement those.
Your key responsibilities:
- Creating preliminary drawings, wheel- and weight calculations for sales cases
- Verifying feasibility of customers technical specification and proposing necessary deviations at sales phase
- Being in charge of project mechanical engineering from kick-off until end of the warranty time
- Being a key person towards the customer during the project and customer contact point concerning mechanical matters
- Securing that project engineering will be executed according to specification, defined standards, Konecranes engineering principles and JUNA process
- Keeping to the project’s engineering schedule and budget
- Defining and allocating engineering resources for project and coordinating resource allocation with Technology teams
- Working in close cooperation with Chief Electrical Engineer and Project Manager to secure smooth progress of the project
- Leading the whole project engineering by guiding the work of defined resources (Konecranes engineering centres and/or external engineering suppliers) and
- verifying final approval for drawings
- Working together with Konecranes Engineering centres as well as external engineering offices
- Supporting manufacturing and erection suppliers/sites in technical questions
- Managing project special engineering such as transportation and erection engineering
- Leading mechanical product development tasks assigned by Product Manager
Work location: Finland or any EU KC locations or remote work within EU.
What you should bring:
- Minimum 5 years’ work experience in crane engineering management and leading engineering projects. Structural calculation experience is a benefit.
- Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in mechanical engineering
- Experience with international delivery projects as well as large cranes is beneficial in this role.
- Experience with TeamCenter and SAP (or equal engineering tools) as well as ERM (engineering resources management) systems is an advantage.
- Fluency in English, other language skills are considered as a plus.
- Readiness for international business travel for around 20-30 days/year, due to the global scope of the position. Depending on the location of the new team member, it could be more and may include occasional visits to HQ, Finland.
